Maurice Mahon House is a key buildings in the heart of Malahide village and occupies one of the four chamfered corners of the Diamond.

The brief was to propose a suitable means of developing the site in order to rejuvenate this corner and to maximize the potential of the site. The clients, being long time residents of the village, wanted any development to be respectful of the desires of the community to retain the village athmosphere.

GCA concluded that viable spaces could be provided by demolishing the various interconnected structures on the site and replacing them with a single coherent building. As one of a set of matching buildings on the Diamond it was essential that the new building echo the original buildings scale, character and roofline.

The street elevation is an exercise in adapting the scale and character of the standard Malahide building front while the slate roofs visible from the street have been adapted to form glazed rooflights, compensating for the small areas of glazing to the street by providing natural light to the deeper floor plates while also linking in with the larger scale roof elements to the rear of the site.

The finished building comprises three own door ground floor retail unitsand two first floor plan office spaces and associated off street car parking,
