High Support Unit for Children Castleblayney, Co. Monaghan
The brief was designed to fulfill a requirement to create a supportive environment for a Special Care Unit for children with emotional and behavioural problems. The facility was designed to meet the requirements of four Health Boards- North Eastern Health Board ,North Western Health Board, Western Health Board and Midland Health Board.
The programme comprised of two Residential Units to accommodate the children and care staff, an Administration Unit, an Education Unit and a Visitor’s Centre.
The site is located on the edge of Castleblayney town. The buildings in the Centre are grouped around a large landscaped sloping courtyard garden that becomes the focal point of the scheme. Buildings are located on three sides of this space, allowing for different aspects and orientation with a variety of views to the hills and landscape beyond.
This project was selected for exhibition in the RIAI Awards 2005.
